About Us
SO HOW DID IT ALL START..........Well....In the fall of 1997, Sue Ellen Cooper, bought a red hat on a trip to Tucson, Arizona. Cooper then bought another red hat and gave it to a friend as a birthday gift. Cooper was inspired by the Jenny Joseph poem, "Warning". The poem begins: “When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple, with a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.” Cooper wanted to encourage her friend to grow older in a playful manner. Cooper repeated the gift to several other friends upon request, and eventually several of the women bought purple outfits and held a tea party on April 25, 1998, at which the Red Hat Society began.
The rest is history……
Our own Norfolk Broads Chapter began in Norwich, Norfolk, UK in April 2006 our present Queen, Queen Jude headed the Chapter and we’ve been busy enjoying ourselves ever since. We’ve had coffee mornings, theatre outings, trips to London, attended Red Hat Conventions in various parts of the UK, annual Beach Parties, snowdrop walks, charity shop visits, Summer BBQs to name but a few ... and so it goes on...
There are a few of us behind the scenes who try to keep the ship sailing. We have The Team (decides what is a viable "Hoot") the Calendars Girls (The Charity Shop Challenge/Quiz Hunts). Our Web Mistress, the Web Assistants along with our Web Checker who look after our Website.
We all try hard to keep our Calendar filled with activities for our our Members to enjoy. We do seem to be pretty busy. We also get invites from other Chapters to join in their activities which is great fun. Our own Members may suggest ideas and we try to implement them as best we can.
